Light Fantastic!

CLIMATE CHANGE CHARITY LAUNCHES SUMMER OF FANTASTIC EVENTS

MARCHES Energy Agency is preparing to launch its exciting new exhibition trailer ‘Light Fantastic’ later this month.

Light Fantastic will provide an inspirational and engaging experience for visitors and create a persuasive case for switching wasteful and expensive incandescent lighting to low energy lighting. The trailer will provide energy efficiency advice, as well as distributing low-energy light bulbs and ‘PowerDown’ devices which can help to save money by automatically powering down computer equipment safely when you turn your computer off.

The energy saving goodies will be provided free of charge by E.ON – one of the UK’s leading power and gas companies.

Visitors will also be able to try out the ‘energy bike’ which helps to show how much physical energy needs to be generated in order to light up low-energy light bulbs versus regular bulbs. As well as the chance to see the full range of contemporary low energy bulbs available, there will be short films, information and interactive games.

The first official visit will be to the Staffordshire County Show on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 May.  Light Fantastic is being sponsored to attend by Staffordshire County Council.

Project Manager, Sarah Meredith, said: “With an average attendance of 70,000 over the two days, we are looking forward to a spectacular launch at the show.  It’s going to be fabulous to talk to so many people about low energy lighting.”

Marches Energy Agency is also looking for a range of willing volunteers to help with this project, preparing for and actually attending these events. This would be an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to improve their knowledge and skill base working in the field of climate change awareness. The trailer is the culmination of many months of hard work and will help Marches Energy Agency to build upon its impressive events repertoire and reach even more people with the climate change message.

Phil Biddle, Head of Energy Efficiency at E.ON, said: “We’re thrilled to be involved with the Light Fantastic road show. This initiative offers a unique series of opportunities that will allow us to deliver a host of energy saving goodies straight into the hands of the public.” Also assisting with donations of goods are Shrewsbury companies Salop Leisure and Motormania, which add a welcome local touch to the project.

A significant donation from Awards for All has allowed completion of the exhibition and the Shropshire Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund has paid for a number of events this summer at local shows and venues.
